THE LAW IN THESE PARTS
Dir. Ra’anan Alexandrowicz (101min, Israel/USA/Germany, 2012)
Hebrew and Arabic with English Subtitles
Documentary
Mid-Atlantic Premiere

In the aftermath of the 1967 War, Israel faced a complex problem of how to properly administer the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Carefully examining the shape and intricacies of the military law system enacted, director Ra’anan Alexandrowicz puts the architects of the legal structure on the witness stand. Their articulate, eloquent, and occasionally critical consideration of the system they crafted and enforced throws into sharp relief one of Israel’s greatest moral quandaries.
