SUKKAH CITY
Dir. Jason Hutt (67min, USA, 2013)
Documentary
Mid-Atlantic Premiere

Sukkah City chronicles the architecture competition created by bestselling author Joshua Foer (Moonwalking With Einstein) and Roger Bennett (cofounder, Reboot) that explored the creative potential of the ancient Jewish sukkah and created an exhibition of twelve radically designed sukkahs in the heart of New York City.

The film tracks the competition from jury day, as an all-star cast of architects, academics and critics (Thom Mayne, Paul Goldberger, Ron Arad) debate the merits of the 600 submissions; to the construction, installation and exhibition of the twelve winning structures.

Jason Hutt’s films are portraits of unique cultures and innovative individuals found within the contemporary Jewish landscape and beyond. Hutt’s first feature length film Breezewood, Pennsylvania shows how service workers and a truck stop ministry in a tiny interstate crossroads have found a mission in providing for the social, spiritual and material needs of the truck drivers, travelers and homeless of the American road.
