About the Festival

The Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival brings books to life each autumn by featuring the writers and personalities behind the pen. It offers our nation’s capital a unique glimpse at the year’s best in American and international Jewish letters, recognizing both emerging and well-established writers.

Throughout the Festival

Israillustrators 2007: Illustrations from Israeli Children’s Books
In the Barbara & Harold Berman Café and in the Ina and Jack Kay Community Hall

In conjunction with Rutu Modan's presentation of Exit Wounds on October 11, the Jewish Literary Festival, the J's Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery and the Embassy of Israel have teamed up to present Israillustrators 2007. This colorful banner exhibition features children's book illustrations by leading Israeli illustrators. Selected works from this exhibition have been displayed in Israeli pavilions at international book fairs and at other literary events in 30 countries in Europe, Asia and South America. Israeli Illustrator Liora Grossman curated the exhibition, and it is on loan from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Presented in partnership with the J's Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery. Co-sponsored by the Embassy of Israel as part of the Israel @ 60 celebrations.

Community Outreach

In partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, USA and District of Columbia Public Schools, the Washington DCJCC is entering the third year of the Toyota Book Initiative, a program committed to placing 1,000 books into every public elementary school library in Southeast Washington DC. Together, we will revitalize these libraries and help encourage students to read. If you would like to participate in this historic program, please visit our web site at http://washingtondcjcc.org/volunteer
