Do you know.....How Russian Names Work?

In Russian language, people are most commonly referred to by a first name and a patronymic, derived from their father’s first name.  This is why Sorin and Arkadina, for example, have the same patronymic.  As to why Arkadina is called Arkadina, it is likely a feminization of her husband’s last name.   Note that although she is called Arkadina in the dramatis personae, she is not referred to this way by the other characters; this would be considered rude.
