The team of outstanding Broadway vocalist CAPATHIA JENKINS and award-winning songwriter/performer LOUIS ROSEN perform the Washington, D.C. premiere of the new song suite, South Side Stories, songs of youth and coming of age that explore the distance from innocence to experience. South Side Stories is a companion piece to Rosen's book The South Side: The Racial Transformation of an American Neighborhood, the stage version of which had its world-premiere presentation at Theater J. The concert will also include the D.C. premiere of Rosen's Twelve Songs on Poems by Maya Angelou; selections from his song cycle Dream Suite, on poems by Langston Hughes; and a preview of songs from his newest work, Giovanni Songs, with words by Nikki Giovanni, all work with a musical sound that strikes a fresh blending of jazz, blues and popular styles.
Admission to the concert at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue includes a ticket to the Monday night, March 26 reading at the Washington DCJCC of Rosen's play The South Side.

Theodore Bikel headlines a multi-night staged reading of Arnold Wesker's Shylock, a landmark reimagining of The Merchant of Venice. This three-day festival will also include a reading of Michael Olmert's Shakespeare and Dr. Lopez, and a lecture on Shylock in history.
