What is a Preview Performance?  A preview performance is an opportunity for the cast and crew to fine tune the show based on the response of a live audience. Sometimes there will be changes made prior to opening night - but it is a full performance with all elements in place.

At the beginning of every run we generally offer 1-2 PWYC Performances and 1-2 $30 Preview Shows.

For PWYC performances, please take note that the box office opens 1.5 hours prior to the performance. Tickets are cash only and limited to 2 per person. Although seats are assigned - tickets are first come, first served. You can line up as early as you wish.

Alternatively, you may skip the line up and purchase  Pay-What-You-Can Tickets Online. (available 10 days prior to performance date).

Inclement Weather Policy
Performance cancellations are rare and are usually decided late in the afternoon for an evening performance. Theater J does not offer refunds when a performance has taken place. When a performance is canceled due to inclement weather or other reasons, alternatives will be assessed at that time regarding possible exchanges or refunds.

Generally, Theater J follows Metro’s lead.  If the Metro system is still running, the performance will go on.  If a performance is cancelled the information will be on our homepage and on our main line at 202-777-3210.  If a performance is not canceled, we encourage patrons to use Metro instead of driving.
