Beyond the Stage Discussions
Theater J is dedicated to taking its dialogues beyond the stage, offering an array of innovative public discussion forums and outreach programs which explore the theatrical, psychological and social elements of our art.
Our most popular dialogue series which are free and open to the public are our:
Artistic Director Roundtables: Generally held on Sunday afternoon following the matinee performance these discussions feature a variety of panelists responding to themes addressed in the current show.

Support Theater J
Since its founding in 1990, Theater J’s goal has been to celebrate the distinctive urban voice and social vision that are part of the Jewish cultural legacy. Theater J strives to reach out to, and engage a diverse audience base, stimulate through-provoking dialogues among people of all faiths, incubate and produce new works, and offer educational opportunities to area youth and the community.
Dedicated above all to a pursuit of artistic excellence, Theater J has been honored with 5 Theater Lobby Awards, 35 Helen Hayes Award nominations—including three nominations for Outstanding Resident Play and a multiple nominations for The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play—and the 2008 Mayor’s Arts Award, making Theater J the premier Jewish theater in the country.

Script Submissions/Reader's Committee
Theater J is always on the lookout for new works that speak to our mission of reclaiming the distinctive urban voice and social vision that are part of the Jewish cultural legacy.
In order to have your play considered for Theater J please email a letter of interest, resume, brief synopsis, and a ten-page dialogue sample. Please submit by email only, as Theater J is invested in improving our sustainability and seeking ways to use less paper. Please do not email unsolicited full length scripts. We do accept agent submissions of full-length plays.
When sending a submission please use the subject line “Script Submission”.
