Management/Administrative Internship

Theater J is seeking a Theater Management/Administrative Intern for the spring and summer of 2017. Spring interns may begin as early as January 3rd, 2017 for a five month, part-time internship.  Summer interns may begin as early as May 15th, 2017 for a three month, part-time internship. The Theater J Management/Administrative Internship is a project oriented program allowing individuals to work with many different departments throughout the spring season.

Duties include:

• Support theater staff with the day to day administrative activities of a professional theater in the areas of marketing, development, patron services and general management.
• Assist in the creation and disbursement of marketing and publicity materials.
• Create content for Theater J’s social media presence.
• Assist with donor cultivation, fundraising, and maintaining donor files and information.
• Assist with managing subscriptions, ticket services, group sales, and house management.
• Assist the Managing Director on the implementation of strategic initiatives, cash and database management, and the day to day operations of the theater.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Support staff in the execution of special events at Theater J including opening and closing night parties as well as the annual benefit.
• Attend rehearsals and performances of Theater J productions.

Qualifications include:

• A working knowledge of theater making and practices.
• Exceptional written communications skills.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Self-Starter.
• Enjoy working in a fast paced environment.
• Team-player.
• Facility with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• A sense of humor is required.
• Knowledge of database management, graphic design, marketing, and/or communications a plus.
• The ideal candidate is interested in a career in theater administration.

This is a volunteer internship position. Housing is not provided.  Accepted interns will work 16-20 hours per week. Current students and young professionals are encouraged to apply.

Artistic/Producing Internship

Theater J is seeking an Artistic/Producing Intern for the spring and summer of 2017. Spring interns may begin as early as January 3rd, 2017 for a five month, part-time internship. Summer interns may begin as early as May 15th, 2017 for a three month, part-time internship. As a Theater J Producing Intern you will work independently and collaboratively with Theater J’s artistic staff.


Duties include:

• Support artistic staff with the day to day producing activities of a professional theater including communications, payroll, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Assist in the casting of the 2017-2018 season.
• Assist with research in engagement activities and special projects, Assist Theater J administrative staff on marketing, development, and management projects as needed.
• Dramaturgical research for Theater J productions as needed.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Support staff in the execution of special events at Theater J including opening and closing night parties as well as the annual benefit.
• Attend rehearsals and performances of Theater J productions.
