Body Awareness by Annie Baker

Director:  Shirley Serotsky
Featuring: Caren Anton, James Flanagan, Julie-Ann Elliott and Michael Tolaydo

It's "Body Awareness" week at Shirley State--a liberal arts college in Vermont--and Phyllis, the organizer, and her partner, Joyce, are hosting one of the guest artists in their home, Frank, a painter famous for his female nudes. Both his presence in the home and his chosen subject instigate tension from the start. Phyllis is furious at his depictions, while Joyce finds the portraits intriguing and beautiful. As Joyce and Phyllis bicker, Joyce's adult son Jared, who may or may not have Asperger's Syndrome, struggles to express himself with heartbreaking results.
" An engaging new comedy by a young playwright with a probing, understated voice.  Its quiet rewards steal up on you." -New York Times

Volunteer Opportunities

Join our team of readers helping to keep Theater J what The New York Times called “The Premier Theater for Premiers.” We are looking for smart, quick and loyal readers able to analyze the merits of plays and find shows that stick with Theater J’s mission. For every five scripts read Theater J’s readers will receive two complementary tickets to our current show.

We are also on the lookout for part time interns to help with our busy literary department. Work with the Literary Associate to organize scripts and correspondence with playwrights and agents, help with the dramaturgy for Theater J’s season of plays, assist in the production of study guides, and help with the PASSPORTS educational program.
