The Kurlander Program for Gay & Lesbian Outreach and Engagement (GLOE) at the Washington DCJCC is seeking a part-time or full-time intern for the fall of 2008 to begin on or around September 1, 2008.
About GLOE:The Stuart S. Kurlander Program for Gay & Lesbian Outreach and Engagement (GLOE) provides social, cultural, educational and public policy programming that speaks to issues, interests, choices and concerns of the Washington DC gay and lesbian Jewish community. The program's vision is to create a destination where gay and lesbian Jews and their friends, families, partners and other supporters feel comfortable exploring programming and events developed for a wide and diverse audience. By creating GLOE, the J hopes to engage this vital population within the broader Washington Jewish community.
DCJCC Internship Program:The Washington DCJCC makes every effort to treat interns as valuable staff members that are part of a creative, energetic, and focused team. An intern, therefore, should expect to receive work that is both administrative and substantive in nature.
Position Summary:GLOE is searching for an intern that will work directly with the GLOE Program Director on several exciting programs and projects. Duties will include the following:
• Event Planning- Coordinating event logistics, working with outside vendors, organizing volunteers to staff events and troubleshooting at the actual events• Marketing- Advertising GLOE events to other GLBT or Jewish organizations via flyering local businesses, sending out email blasts and attending community organization meetings, and maintaining all event listings on the GLOE website• Outreach- Attending community GLBT or Jewish meetings and reaching out to schools, synagogues, businesses and community organizations

Required Skills:Interns MUST be able to problem solve and to provide excellent customer service to all GLOE participants. Additionally, the following skills are beneficial but not required:• Knowledge and understanding of the Greater Washington LGBT and/or Jewish community• Experience with updating websites and sending out email blasts OR willingness to learn• Experience creating flyers and/or announcements for programming
