Endowments and Special Funds

Endowments and special funds are a unique way to honor family members, friends or to establish a lasting legacy at the Washington DCJCC. The interest from endowment funds provides general support, makes new programs possible, continues ongoing programs and helps to provide scholarships.

The board and staff are grateful to the donors who have established the following endowments or special funds at the Center:

Special Funds:
Helen and Milton Covensky Fund to create a collection of quality Jewish children’s
     literature and videos to be housed in the library and to sponsor special cultural
     programs

Chaim Kempner Collection Library Fund to sponsor a book author
     series on recently published Jewish books, support the acquisition of new books
     and Jewish periodicals

Morton & Paula Gerson Fund for Yiddish Literature to fund Yiddish
     programming

Stuart S. Kurlander Fund for Gay & Lesbian Outreach and
    Engagement to provide various programming that speaks to issues, interests,
     choices and concerns of the Gay and Lesbian Jewish community

Bernard and Etta Watson Science Education Fund to support pre-K
     through high school level education programs in the natural sciences

Endowments:

Frances R. Arent Fund to provide resources for the DCJCC’s College Bound Mentor Program

  

John R. Risher, Jr. Public Affairs Forum Endowment Fund to inform the public about current issues

Gerald L. Bernstein Memorial Lecture Fund to support the keynote lecture of the annual Hyman S. and Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival

   Lynn Cutler Fund for the National Institute of Jewish Leadership to support public affairs programs
Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival Fund to support the annual Jewish Literary Festival   Philip Schiff Fund to promote awareness and involvement in contemporary social action issues through educational and experiential programs
Ann Loeb Bronfman Fund to support exhibits, programs and maintenance of the Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery   Muriel K. Skolnick "Children's Hour" Endowment to enhance children’s programs at the Center through storytelling
Gertrude & Lawrence Gichner Fund for Performing Arts to support drama, music and performing arts programs   Helen Littman Moskowitz and Sophie Eisenberg Stollman Fund to support senior citizen programs and breast cancer awareness activities
Aaron & Cecile Goldman Fund to provide for the physical maintenance and programmatic support of the Aaron & Cecile Goldman Theater   Ruth Behrend & Charles Haskell Small Fund to support programs showcasing the work and creativity of Washington area artists and poets

Paula Seigle Goldman Fund to support Judaic programs in DCJCC camps

   Sugarman Family Award for Jewish Children's Literature to support excellence in Jewish children’s books
Helen S. Hirsch Children's Library Fund to support a children’s library for youngsters participating in the Washington DCJCC Preschool and camp programs   Irving Wallace Endowment Fund to provide camp scholarships for elementary school-aged children
Rosalyn Hirsch Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for Center programs   Ruth Immerman Weinstein Fund to support an annual Purim puppet show
Ella Laszlo Bache-Brummer Memorial Fund for Community Service to support community service programs   Bernard Wexler Fund for Jewish History to support an annual lecture on Jewish History

Julius & Dorothy Lazarus Fund for Children's Programs to sustain and expand programs, classes, courses and services for children of all ages

   Paul Young Memorial Endowment for Special Needs Children to fund programs for children with special needs
Esther and Harry Plotkin Fund for Jewish Tradition to enrich the quality of Jewish life in the District of Columbia   Irvin Wolloch Fund to promote excellence in theater arts

Nezkakim Fund for Special Needs to support current and future programs for special needs populations

   Byer Family Community Fund to establish and maintain a chess program for children
Shirley Povich Sports Lecture Fund to support an annual lecture on sports journalism   Arthur Tracy "The Street Singer" Endowment Fund to support the performing arts
Anne S. Reich Fine Arts Endowment in Memory of Daryl Reich Rubenstein to support annual lectures and other educational events held in conjunction with art exhibitions in the Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery   Nancy Raskin Unrestricted Endowment Fund to provide general support to the Center for operations, programs and services
Henry & Anne Reich Family Fund to enable individuals with physical disabilities and limited financial resources to use the Health and Fitness Center   The Harriett J. Neuman Fund to support the annual Washington Jewish Film Festival: An Exhibition of International Cinema
Steven M. Reich Memorial Fund for Children’s Programming to benefit children’s programs
