2006 Morris Cafritz Center for the Arts Benefit
Tovah Feldshuh in Concert

On October 16, 2006 acclaimed performer Tovah Feldshuh appeared in a special one-night only concert at the GW Lisner Auditorium!

Ms. Feldshuh, accompanied by musical director Mat Eisenstein , entertained an audience of over 400 at GW Lisner Auditorium with her unique one-woman show Tovah: Out of Her Mind! An energetic, creative and often touching portrayal of a variety of different characters, filled with songs from a breadth of musical styles, the show bounced from a New York subway to a playground to an upper West Side apartment, connecting with audience members both young and young-at-heart. The evening was a homecoming of sorts for Tovah, as her husband is a native Washingtonian.

This year's benefit is a part of a major milestone for the Washington DCJCC, commemorating the return to its historic home in 1997. Ms. Feldshuh shared with the crowd that, "It is a privilege to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the JCC at 16th and Q." In tribute to what the opening represented and the impact now ten years later, she marveled that, "Moving back into the building a decade ago began the rehabilitation of the entire neighborhood. What began around Esther and Harry Plotkin's dining room table grew into reclamation of your original home and the restoration of a big part of your city."

After the concert, Ms. Feldshuh joined the audience for a lavish dessert reception in the Marvin Center at George Washington University where she graciously signed autographs on CDs and programs.

It was a wonderful evening, with a performance full of laughter, songs and dance, highlighting the programs of the Washington DCJCC. We are especially grateful to David Bruce Smith, event chair, for his longstanding support of the Morris Cafritz Center for the Arts and his passion for bringing special programs to the Washington DCJCC.
