Summer 2015 LEGO® Minecraft Camp:    

Session Dates:
June 22-26

At LEGO® Camp, campers spend half the day working with the experts from PlayWell Teknologies on designing and building LEGO® projects and the other half of the day enjoying all of the other wonderful things the DCJCC Camps have to offer.

Minecraft Build Adventure Game using LEGO ® (ages 5 - 6)

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO! Resourcefulness, creativity, and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game; roll the dice to mine for resources, and use these resources to build special items to help in our adventures! Build a Zoo, create a Medieval Castle, and design a Tree House Village! This LEGO experience is an original game designed by Play-Well instructors inspired by the popular game, Minecraft. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO.

Minecraft Build Survival Game using LEGO ® (ages 7 - 11)

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO! Resourcefulness, creativity, and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game; roll the dice to mine for resources, craft tools, and watch out for Creepers! This ultimate LEGO Minecraft experience is an original game designed by Play-Well instructors, using gameplay elements and characters inspired by the popular Minecraft video game. Summer 2015 Rock City World Tour Camp  NEW!

Entering Grades: PreK-2

Session Dates:                                               July 20 - 24

Whether they’re a budding rock-star or an aspiring classical soloist, this is the camp! Through dynamic musical and movement-based activities, exposure to live instruments and musically inspired story-time, budding young musicians gradually develop the skills needed to read music, play simple rhythms and develop fine motor control. Classes focus on musical concepts such as fast and slow, sound and silence, high and low and even singing and playing major scales. Campers will spend half the day with the experts from Bach to Rock and the other half of the day enjoying all the other wonderful things DCJCC Summer Camp has to offer.


Summer 2015 Rock Band Camp  NEW!

Entering Grades: 2 – 5

Session Dates:                                                 July 20 - 24

Cost: $550, $480 discounted member price

Designed for students of all levels, from beginners to seasoned artists, this program is taught by real musicians using the unique Bach to Rock method, which will have campers playing full songs in no time! Campers are placed in a band according to their age and skill level and the requirements of ensemble playing, teamwork and achievement of musical objectives are stressed. Depending on ability level, development of original material is strongly encouraged. Campers will spend half the day with the experts from Bach to Rock and the other half of the day enjoying all the other wonderful things DCJCC Summer Camp has to offer.

Summer 2015 Theater Camp 

Entering Grades 1–6

Session Dates:
July 6-17

Cost: $1100, $960 discounted member price

Under the direction and guidance of professional teaching artists from Imagination Stage, campers learn the “nuts and bolts” of developing a story, creating characters, and putting on a play from “page to stage.” Camp days are filled with fun, active, educational experiences in creative drama, music, movement, and visual arts/production, along with rehearsals for an original musical production. This camp also develops important life-long learning skills such as teamwork, active listening, creativity, spontaneity, and risk-taking. At the end of the two weeks, campers will produce and perform Pomagranates for Persephone for family and friends.

Regardless of previous chess-playing ability, Chess Camp is fun for fans of the game! From beginners’ strategy to building mastery, this camp will provide lessons, mentoring and the full complement of DCJCC camp activities.

Summer 2015 Outdoor Adventure Camp 

Entering Grades 3–6

Session Dates:
Outdoor Adventure Week I: August 3-7
Outdoor Adventure Week II: August 10-14

Cost: $550, $480 discounted member price

Campers stretch their legs outside the beltway to enjoy many of the different outdoor activities that the region has to offer. Campers will hike in the Shenandoah National Forest, learn map and compass skills,, canoe or raft in some of our local scenic rivers, visit natural springs and watering holes, and spend the night outdoors camping. Have a great time learning about the outdoors while they are experiencing it! 

Summer 2015 Junior Adventure Camp 

Entering Grades 1–2

Session Dates:
August 10-14

Cost: $550, $480 discounted member price

Our Jr. Adventure Camp takes some of the highlights from our program for older campers and makes them accessible to our younger campers. Campers may go hiking at Great Falls, climbing at a local rock gym, tubing down a local river and more. (Please note that the younger campers do not do an overnight trip.)
