Imagination Stage Musical Theater:

Only open to School Age Students grades 2-5, this process-based class combines two of the three disciplines that make up the genre of Musical Theatre: acting and singing.  In FUNdamentals of Musical Theatre, students work on creating believable characters for the stage as well as developing singing skills.  Students participate in fun acting activities that focus on realistic actions and reactions.  Vocal technique sections aim to develop healthy singing practices, warm-up routines, and musicianship skills.  Through games and exercises, students build a strong and caring ensemble with their fellow classmates in order to promote an environment of trust where they can effectively explore, make big choices, and take risks with characters!  By the end of the semester, students share one or two musical theatre selections from popular Broadway musicals chosen for their focus on story and character.  Their work on these song selections utilizes the skills they have been learning throughout the semester.  Parents are invited to observe the last 30 minutes of the last class for an informal sharing where students share what they have learned in class.

Yom Rishon:

Yom Rishon at the J is the DCJCC’s Sunday morning Judaic program, for children currently in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.  Each year an additional grade will be added through the 6th grade.  This exciting new curriculum is designed to encourage a connection to the Jewish community through art, music, stories, food and experiential hands-on learning. We utilize the Center’s extensive resources to create fun-filled mornings and informal Jewish learning experiences.  Some of the topics covered include: holidays, life cycle, symbols, Israel, tzedakah, Jewish values, cooking, singing, and much more!

The student will also be introduced to Hebrew in an age-appropriate hands-on manner which makes learning the language fun and exciting.  In the early grades the children will learn the alphabet and as they continue an introduction to Hebrew reading will take place.  This skill will help to prepare children who are interested in becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at a local Temple, Synagogue or with an individual tutor.

To register for Yom Rishon, click here and select School Age Yom Rishon.  Calendar of classes coming soon.
