Thank you for your interest in the Edlavitch DCJCC Preschool!

Our dynamic, NAEYC-accredited early childhood program is filled with developmentally appropriate activities led by our energetic staff. We focus on a Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum and believe children learn best when they are active participants in the formation of their own ideas and understanding of the world.

Admissions Process

We run on a school year system, from September through August, so children are admitted for the September following their second birthday (or just prior, in the case of September and October birthdays).  In order to be considered for admission, children must be on our Waitlist (see below). There is no other application process; when we begin the admissions process in late January/early February, we send out offers of admission based on the order in which families appear on the Waitlist.  So once you are on the Waitlist, there is no need for any further action until admission offers go out.  Please see the FAQs for more information on Admissions.

We do occasionally have mid-year openings, as folks move away or have other unexpected situations arise.  Please email Miriam to let us know if you are interested in a mid-year spot once your child has turned two.

Waitlist Application

Please note that all of our admissions are done from our waitlist; there is no separate admission list.

Please fill out our online waitlist application on the CampMinder site:

There is a $50 waitlist application fee.

**Important Note about the Waitlist Application: When filling out the application, please select the current calendar year (2018) to find the Preschool Waitlist Application.  Admission for all future years (2018, 2019, 2020) are done from the 2018 Season Waitlist; there will be no need to re-enroll once you are on the 2018 list.

Important update about the 2018-19 school year

The Edlavitch DCJCC is planning a major renovation of our building, beginning in the fall of 2018, with completion by September of 2019.  The renovation will enhance the Center as a whole and will bring some very exciting changes and improvements to the Preschool.
For the 2018-19 school year, we are committed to having a fully licensed and high-quality Reggio-inspired Preschool, just as we do now.  But at the moment, there are details to be worked out as to where the Preschool will be located and how many children it will accommodate during the renovation process.  We will either stay on-site, safely away from construction, or we will be housed in a temporary facility somewhere within a mile of our current location.  We will have a final answer on all of this by the end of January, before admission offers go out, and you will be kept informed as we know more about this.
We will still be offering Group Tours throughout this school year (see dates above). During your tour, we will see our school as it currently is and also discuss some of the plans for renovations.  Please keep in mind that even though our physical space might look different when your children are old enough to attend, what you will see on your tour in terms of our pedagogy, community, general schedule, and approach will remain the same during and after the renovations.

Please reach out to Miriam with any questions!  She can be reached at or (202) 777-3263.  The best way to contact her is via email; she is usually in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
