21st ANNUAL DECEMBER 25th DAY OF SERVICEJews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Baha'i's working together to serve those in need
Endorsed by
WASHINGTON, DC – The Washington DC Jewish Community Center is issuing its annual call for volunteers for the 21st Annual December 25th Day of Service. The project brings together more than 1,000 volunteers from all ethnicities and faiths. Volunteers can make a difference in someone’s life by registering for such projects as preparing meals and serving them to the homeless, painting homeless shelters, throwing parties for sick children in hospitals, visiting seniors in nursing homes, distributing gifts at over 20 homeless shelters, donating blood and much more. The Center's biggest service project of the year, serves over 10,000 underprivileged people throughout the DC metropolitan area.
Involvement in service projects gives volunteers the opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds, but with whom they share the same tradition of giving to the community, to those in need. Always happy to support the community, the Washington Nationals are proud to endorse this event. Alphonso Maldon, Jr., Senior Vice President of External Affairs and President of the Nationals Dream Foundation agrees. “The Washington Nationals believe community service is a great way to make an impact in our city. We applaud the support and contribution of the Washington DCJCC’s signature volunteer event—December 25th Day of Service.”
“The December 25th Day of Service encourages the community to give back through high-impact volunteer initiatives,” said Project Director Lavinia Balaci. “We give the gift of service to those who need it most, on one of the days when it particularly means the most. Everyone can celebrate service - people can and do come together for the greater good of the Washington DC community, regardless of race or religious affiliation.”
The Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service (MCCCS) at the Washington DCJCC organizes major community service projects that address unmet needs in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. For over 20 years MCCCS has enabled thousands of individuals to make a difference in our community. Volunteers take responsibility to enrich the lives of others as well as their own. Through active partnerships with over 100 local social service agencies and corporations we are repairing the world – one neighborhood at a time.
Scheduled December 25th volunteer opportunities include: visiting pediatric units in hospitals, preparing meals for area soup kitchens and delivering gifts to homeless shelters. Volunteers can also give blood, paint homeless shelters, and spend time with children and seniors—filling in so their caregivers can celebrate Christmas with their families.

The goals of the Washington DCJCC are to preserve and strengthen Jewish identity, heritage, tradition, and values thorough a wide variety of social, cultural, recreational and educational programs and services. The Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service is supported by a grant from the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. The department also receives support from the United Way of the Capital Area.
