TEAM CAPTAIN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. Who are Team Captains?
The backbone of the December 25th Day of Service! These folks make the day possible by taking responsibility for a volunteer project site.

People just like YOU.

For most projects, two team captains are assigned and work together to support one another, their site, and their volunteers. In addition, every Team Captain is assigned a Site and Team Captain Committee contact who is available to answer questions, help brainstorm ideas, and troubleshoot problems.

2. I've never volunteered with the Washington DCJCC, can I jump right on board?
Absolutely! This day of service is designed to create community leaders. If you're willing to make the commitment, we'll support you!

3. What do Team Captains do?
You and, in some cases, a co-Team Captain will do the following: a. Go out and visit your site before December 25th, meet with your site contact, and discuss appropriate volunteer activities. b. Inform your volunteer team about times, locations, activities. c. Keep in touch with Washington DCJCC staff about supply needs.

4. How do Team Captains know what activities to plan?
In most cases, it's already taken care of! A Team Captain's site assignments include the site's request for an activity. Some may be as specific as playing bingo with seniors or cooking food provided by a shelter. In other cases it's more vague, such as playing games with children or doing arts & craft with teens. Through conversations with their site contact, Team Captains create an activity for the day.

5. Where do Team Captains get supplies for their sites?
From the Washington DCJCC! We commit to providing every volunteer project with gifts and desserts in the amount requested by the social service agency staff. We can't promise the gifts will be exactly the items requested, but they will be appropriate substitutes. If additional items are needed, such as crafts and games, the Washington DCJCC will provide whatever is available from donations. Team Captains are asked to be resourceful and seek donations of craft items from their volunteer team, friends and colleagues. Team Captain Committee contacts will share ideas, too.

6. Can Team Captains request a specific site assignment?
Yes! We'll do our best to meet your request. Assignments are made on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to the previous year's team captain for the site.

7 . Can my friends volunteer at my project site?
Yes! Your friends will need to register online. Once they are registered, we will let you know and confirm everything.
