JOB SKILLS: HELP SOME ONE RE-ENTER THE WORKFORCE

Ever interview successfully for a job? Then come use your past experience to help unemployed people refine their interviewing and job search skills. Twice a month a group of volunteers meets with participants in the Jubilee Jobs Placement program. We conduct mock interviews with the clients and provide them with feedback and suggestions. Training is provided for volunteers — so you don’t need to be an expert interviewer. To sign-up, contact our program manager.

CALLING ALL BABY BOOMERS! TUTORS AND MENTORS NEEDED!

Experience Corps offers new adventures in service for Americans over 55. In the District of Columbia, Experience Corps volunteers help elementary school children learn to read and succeed in school. What do volunteers do? Tutor 1st through 3rd grade students who read below grade level, mentor 5th and 6th grade boys who need support to meet academic and behavior goals, assist classroom teachers with literacy-related activities and work with fellow team members to enrich the school environment. D.C. PALS (POSITIVE ADULT LEADERS): TUTOR A CHILD

A very successful tutoring program, D.C. PALS (Positive Adult Leaders works during the school year with youngsters at the Kingman Boys and Girls Club, a few blocks from the DCJCC. We are recruiting tutors for the fall to help students in a weekly program that concentrates on reading, writing and arithmetic skills. Contact us.

DC HIGH-SCHOOL MENTORING PROGRAM 

Partnership with Mentors Inc.
One-on-one mentoring relationship and enrichment activities
(Appropriate for adults over 21)
The Morris Cafritz Center for Community Service is recruiting men and women to participate in Mentors, Inc. multifaceted program to help D.C. students "graduate from high school with a plan for life: college, vocational/technical training, military service or full-time employment." Minimum commitment: 5 hours per month. Required: an application, background check, $30 processing fee, and participation in an orientation and training session.

WASHINGTON LITERACY COUNCIL: TEACH SOMEONE TO READ

Washington Literacy Council is in need of a program manager and tutors. The Council trains and matches tutors with adult students in learning to read. Working one-on-one with a student impacts not only the student, not only the children and extended family of the student, but the tutor who can gain the deep satisfaction of making a concrete difference.
